THE CHALLENGE

This waterproofing opportunity for this project provided a very unique challenge.  The owners of the Hatfield’s & McCoy’s Dinner Theater had made the decision in 2016 to reconstruct performance area by incorporating an Olympic-sizes, 22’ deep diving well into the middle of the stage.  To make the engineering feat even more challenging, they wanted the stage to be able to transform instantly from a solid stage floor; to an open water ‘swimming hole’ and back again, during the course of the performance each night.

Following the completion of the stage reconstruction project, the dinner theater resumed giving performances … and the idea was a huge success.  The only problem was that the maintenance team had to continually add water to the diving tank, because it was leaking out through the unprotected concrete.  After almost two years of dealing with this problem, the decision was made to drain the diving tank and waterproof the concrete.  The question was … what would be the most efficient and cost-effective way to accomplish this?  Given that the dinner theater had resumed doing performances, they did not want to have to shut the stage area down for any longer than was absolutely necessary!

THE SOLUTION

After careful consideration, the owners decided that spray-applying the award-winning TechCrete 2500 Waterproofing System would be the best course of action to follow.  There were many factors to take into consideration on this project, among them being:  cost of the project … ‘down time’ during which no performances could be done … ability of the waterproofing system to be used on vertical & horizontal surfaces … the desire to use potable water certified products, since the performer/divers would be in the water … and how long the waterproofing would last before having to be applied again.  The fact that the TechCrete 2500 Waterproofing System by Alchemco met all of those conditions and more, made it an easy decision for the owners.

THE RESULTS

The tank was drained of its 22,000 gallons of water, and the TechCrete 2500 Waterproofing System was successfully applied in less than 48 hours.  Within mere days, the tank had been refilled with water and performances were able to resume … and there has been no water leakage since.
